NSRWA 22nd Annual River Clean Up Day

May 9, 2009

May 9, 2009 at 9:00 AM | Driftway Conservation area

Saturday, May 9th  9 a.m. - noon

Join the NSRWA and head out by foot, truck, or boat to remove trash and debris from our watershed. No hands are too small for this community event.

If you know of any scout or school groups interested in participating please let them know about our event. Its easy. Just show up at one of our 6 clean up stations listed on the middle panel of this flyer between 9 am and 12 noon, and pick up trash with us!

We particularly need folks to be captains at the sites and volunteers with pickup trucks to help us haul trash away from the clean up stations. If you have a pickup truck and/or want to volunteer to be a captain please contact Paula Christie at the NSRWA office at 781-659-8168 or email paula@nsrwa.org

CLEAN UP STATIONS

 North River Watershed

1. Driftway Conservation Area, Scituate

Trash seekers will find many plastic bags and litter along the marsh on both sides of Scituate's Driftway. This station offers water access to Herring River and the Spit, and will serve as the Headquarters for this year's event.

2. Union Street Canoe Launch, Marshfield

The ideal site for water access to the middle section of the river. Launch your canoe or kayak here and patrol the river and marshes for litter and storm debris.

3. Hanover Canoe Launch

This year the Hanover Open Space Committee will be at this site and will be looking for others to go upstream to Factory Pond. Members of the committee will be there to guide you. This is also an excellent place to launch a canoe or kayak to clean up less accessible sites downstream on Herring Brook and the North and Indian Head Rivers.

4. Old Oaken Bucket Pond, Scituate

Meet in the Old Oaken Bucket Pond parking lot at the intersection of Routes 3A and 123.

South River Watershed

5. Willow Street Bridge, Marshfield

The Willow Street Bridge will serve as Clean Up Day Headquarters for sites in and around Marshfield Center. Other potential areas for clean up include the old railroad trestle (both the South River Street and Ocean Street segments), Cedar Grove Cemetery, Veterans Memorial Park, and the Keville Bridge area behind CVS.

6. Marshfield Town Landing

This Ferry Street site provides access by land or water to Humarock and portions of the South River. Roving crews can set off from here by foot, boat or automobile, and scour both the Marshfield and Humarock banks of the South River.
