Special Volunteer Opportunities for Scouts and other Youth Groups and Individuals
Environmental Monitoring
For those who are interested in getting outside and getting dirty! The NSRWA has multiple programs that help to monitor the health of our watershed. In the spring we need people to count river herring, in the summer we need RiverWatch water quality monitoring volunteers, people to survey invasive species, and flow monitors in tributaries to name just a few ways that you can become a citizen scientist.
Event Support
The NSRWA hosts many kinds of events. We need volunteers to help us make them as successful as possible. Some examples of events we run annually include the Kayak Expo, River Clean Up Day, and the Great River Race. We also sponsor walks and paddles throughout the year and are always looking for people who are naturalists and paddle leaders to help educate others about the nature of our rivers and watershed.
Fundraising
We can't accomplish our mission to protect, restore and educate about our watershed without much needed funding for our programs. Our fundraising events include an Auction, Food for Thought, the Kayak Expo, and the RiverViews House Tour. If you are interested in serving on one of our fundraising event committees let us know!
Mailing Volunteers/Office Help
Mailings, mailings, mailings! Our newsletter is published four times a year and is sent to all of our 1500 members. There are flyers and notices of our many events, membership renewals and notices that need to be mailed. Join our dedicated group of volunteers that gets together four mornings a year to get the newsletters ready for the post office, come into the office and work with us here, or take a mailing home and work on it in front of the TV.
Professional Consultant Volunteers
Professional individuals or companies that provide pro bono project-based services, such as lawyers, scientists, business people, computer experts, etc. These volunteers work with the staff member who has oversight responsibility for the identified project.
