Internship Opportunity:
NonPoint Source Pollution Education and Outreach
The North and South Rivers Watershed Association is looking for an energetic, creative intern with a background in communications to help develop and implement a non-point source (NPS) pollution education campaign with three towns in our region (Pembroke, Hanover, and Hanson).
The NSRWA has recently helped the towns secure grant funds to acquire a state of the art street sweeper to remove pollutants from the roads so they are not washed into streams and rivers by stormwater runoff. This project is being implemented by a tri-town collaborative working group, comprised of representatives of the Department of Public Works, Town Managers, environmental consultants, and our organization. As part of this project, the intern will work with the tri-town group to develop a complementary, multi-faceted education/outreach campaign to teach community residents how they can prevent non-point source pollution of their local water resources. Components of this campaign may include (but not necessarily limited to):
|
Writing articles for the local newspapers and NSRWA newsletter to promote the project;
Designing posters, brochures and other outreach materials, and distributing them at marketing events such as Town Meetings and Hazardous Waste Days;
Developing and implementing a Storm Drain Marking Program to label some of the storm drains discharging to the 15 water bodies in the study area;
|
We believe this project can be completed within the semester, working approximately 8 hours a week for 8-10 weeks. There may be some evening or weekend hours, depending on how the intern designs the outreach campaign, but this is not a requirement.
