Greenscapes Model Bylaw

In the summer of 2005, the North and South Rivers Watershed Association (NSRWA) received a grant from the Massachusetts Environmental Trust (MET), a fund that benefits the water resources of the Commonwealth. The money for the MET comes from the sale of environmental license plates that feature the tail of a right whale, a leaping brook trout, or a Blackstone Valley mill. This MET grant funding was used by the NSRWA to write a Model Landscaping Bylaw, a Model Irrigation Bylaw, and a guidance document on pesticide and fertilizer use. These model bylaws were critically reviewed by town and state officials, as well as experts in the landscaping and irrigation industry. They are written in such a way that they provide a “menu of options” from which town officials can choose, depending upon their town-specific needs.
