SUMMARY:Safe Catch and Release Best Practices
DESCRIPTION:Safe Catch and Release Best Practices\nThursday\, May 23\n7:00pm Zoom\nWith Andy Danylchuk\, Science Advisor for Keep Fish Wet and Professor of Fish Conservation at UMass Amherst \nJoin us for this Safe Catch and Release Best Practices Zoom with Andy Danylchuk\, Professor of Fish Conservation at UMass Amherst. Learn about the best way to handle stripers to ensure their survival before our South Shore Striper Tournament starting on June 7 at 5:00pm. \nCatch and release is a popular fishing technique aimed at keeping fish populations sustainable. But what happens to the fish after it has been released? Dr. Danylchuk is an avid fisherman and scientist who is on a personal crusade to ensure that fish are around for future generations to enjoy. Andy will provide an informal\, science-based talk that covers questions like: \n\nHow do you minimize the impact of handling a fish?\nWhat are the physiological indicators that a fish is ready to be released?\nHow can everyone make an impact on future generations of fish?\n\nUnderstanding Andy’s work and how fish respond to being caught will make you a better angler! \nRegister for Zoom here.

SUMMARY:Striped Bass Fishing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In preparation for the upcoming South Shore Striper Tournament join expert South Shore angler Graham Whelan for a 2-hour Striped Bass Fishing Workshop run by the North and South River Watershed Association. Participants will learn the strategy behind fishing for stripers from shore with bait (or artificials if desired)\, and learn about the conservation of the striped bass and the proper way to safely catch and release them. Anglers will be taught how to use a circle hook and the importance of it to the fish’s safety while bait fishing. This will be run as a two-hour session on Saturday\, June 5th from 10am-12pm at the Marshfield Canoe Launch located off Union Street in Marshfield. For adults and families with a limited group size. All equipment will be provided. \nNote from the guide: “My name is Graham Whelan and I’m a Sophomore at Flagler College. I’ve been saltwater and freshwater fishing the South Shore for over 10 years. My favorite way to fish is with lures or flies but in a tournament setting knowing how to fish with bait can save your day.” \nREGISTER HERE!
