DESCRIPTION:Want to go paddling on the rivers but aren’t sure how to time the tides\, where to put in or what the best itineraries are? It can be a little intimidating – but with a little guidance you can enjoy one of the most beautiful natural gems on the South Shore! This workshop is designed to provide all you need to know to navigate the North and South Rivers safely and find out some of the important nature and history you will see while out on your adventure. We will provide a virtual tour of the rivers – where to put in\, how to time the tides at each put in\, some easy\, medium and hardcore itineraries and some points of interest along those itineraries. This presentation will help you start to explore the nature in your own back yard!\n\n\nThis event is free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Cushing Memorial Hall\, 673 Main St\, Norwell \nThis full-day symposium will present an overview of current research on climate change and its impact on sea level rise\, ocean acidification\, anticipated changes in precipitation and consequences for inland flooding and changes to groundwater levels\, and emergency preparedness and resiliency in the energy industry. DESCRIPTION:Ever wish you could be that person casting a fly fishing rod on the scenic banks of a river – sounds zen right? This class is designed to introduce people to the sport of fly fishing. Join our Trout Unlimited friends\, Warren Winders and Joe Danubio\, to learn the basics about fly fishing and casting. You’ll learn how to put together the fly fishing tackle needed for the type of fishing that you may be interested in. We’ll cover what sizes and types of fly rods\, fly lines\, leaders\, and fly reels – and flies you will need to fish successfully for a range of species; everything from sunfish to striped bass and bluefish. And these are all fish species that can be found in the North and South Rivers watershed. DESCRIPTION:Join us on our pontoon boat with experienced birder John Galluzzo and search for shore birds along the marshes and 3rd and 4th Cliffs at low tide. Program discussions will include insect identification\, fun facts\, pollinator species invasive species and their effects\, ticks\, plus whatever we can find! This walk will provide folks with a knowledge of local entomology and a general appreciation for the most diverse group of life in the animal kingdom. So bring your walking shoes\, binoculars\, magnifying glass\, and an open mind as we discover our multi-legged neighbors.  Limit 20 people. \nThe walk will be held at Stetson Meadows owned by the town of Norwell. DESCRIPTION:Join professional photographer Kjeld Mahoney on our pontoon boat to learn the art of landscape and wildlife photography on the state’s only Scenic Protected River! During this 2-hour boat excursion up to some of the most preserved parts of the North River you will be provided information on using the right lenses\, techniques\, and settings to get the best shots of nature. Added bonus it will be high tide and sunset. You must bring your own equipment. Space is limited. He has been teaching photography\, photoshop and editing for 15 years. SUMMARY:Guided Fly Fishing Expedition for Stripers
DESCRIPTION:Guided 4-hour fly fishing expedition for Striped Bass at the Spit. Have the experience of a lifetime fly fishing at the mouth of the North River. You must have your own equipment including your own saltwater fly rod with an appropriate line and waders. Flies and leaders will be provided if necessary.  The cost is $75 for NSRWA members\, $100 for non-members (includes membership). If you have other gear (flies\, leaders\, stripping baskets) please bring that as well. We’ll have a couple extra stripping baskets\, some flies and a few leaders in case people need them. You should also bring/wear some type of eye protection\, like sunglasses. Feel free to wear/bring waders – on the last trip\, most brought waders and it looked like they were useful. SUMMARY:Upper Reaches Exploration Paddle
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the half year point by going out with the NSRWA on a guided paddle exploring the upper reaches of the North River. This includes paddling through the “Crotch” where the Herring Brook and Indian Head meet the North River. This area includes vast marshlands which are rich with color during July. This is a guided “out and back” paddle exploring the upper reaches of the North River. Meet at the Hanover Public Launch on Indian Head Drive before noon. Bring your own vessel\, or borrow one of our canoes\, just let us know. All Participants must bring and wear a well-fitting PFD at all times. Kayaks or canoes welcome. Paddlers 12 years of age or younger must be accompanied by an adult. Moderate experience level paddle. Space limited. DESCRIPTION:Want to go paddling on the rivers but aren’t sure how to time the tides\, where to put in or what the best itineraries are? It can be a little intimidating – but with a little guidance you can enjoy one of the most beautiful natural gems on the South Shore! This workshop is designed to provide all you need to know to navigate the North and South Rivers safely and find out some of the important nature and history you will see while out on your adventure. We will provide a virtual tour of the rivers – where to put in\, how to time the tides at each put in\, some easy\, medium and hardcore itineraries and some points of interest along those itineraries. This presentation will help you start to explore the nature in your own back yard! SUMMARY:2019 Great River Race
DESCRIPTION:Online registration ended Friday\, July 12 at 12:00 noon. Day of race (Saturday July 13) registration begins at 8:00am and ends at 9:00am. The race begins at 9:30am. See you on the river!  \nCome join us on the North River and experience one of the most beautiful rivers in Massachusetts. This awesome 7.5 mile race starts at Bridge Street Canoe Launch in Norwell and ends at Indian Head Road in Hanover. \nGet competitive and race your friends\, or take it at your pace and enjoy this outstanding view of the river. All skill levels\, from novice to racer\, are invited to take part in the race and all ages are welcome (Participants age 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult).  Any type of non-motorized water craft is eligible to enter the Race – even stand-up paddle boards! There is also the “Best Decorated Boat or Boater” division for the less serious\, but creative paddler.

DESCRIPTION:Experience a summer’s sunset on the Spit! Join the NSRWA on a guided “out and back” paddle from the Driftway in Scituate to the Spit. The Spit is a sandy barrier beach formed where the North and South Rivers meet the Ocean. Meet before 7pm at the Driftway Conservation Park in Scituate.
