Features

According to the club’s website, The Hull Yacht Club was founded in 1880 by 13 summer residents of Hull who owned and raced small sailboats. It was incorporated in 1882, with 128 members. The same year, the club made a with the Hingham-Nantasket Steamship Authority for which a pier and facility were constructed to accommodate steamship traffic and provide the club with a clubhouse. It became one of the most active amateur yacht clubs in the United States, hosting at least six open regattas each summer. An updated — and much larger — facility was constructed in 1891, and the club continued to grow, with an outpost at Rowe’s Wharf in Boston. In 1903, it merged with the Boston Yacht Club.

During the Depression, membership began to dwindle. The club house was sold to investors hoping to build a hotel, but instead was deemed a fire hazard and dismantled. The current-day club was founded in 1932, with meetings at a local church and access to the water from privately-owned docks. In 1937, Fitzpatrick Way was constructed atop a former railroad bed. In 1939, the former “Old Beacon Club” from Allerton Hill was moved to its present location, re-establishing the club at Mariners Park.

This land is within the region of the Massachuseuk (or Massachusett) Native American tribe.
