Get a Taste of Spring at the 6th Annual Gardening Green Expo!

Saturday, March 24, 2018
10am – 4pm

It’s almost spring and that means it’s time to attend Gardening Green Expo. The theme for this year is “Nature is the Answer”. The big trend for 2018 is Nature Rx for Physical, Mental, and Environmental Health. With our lives getting more and more hectic, people are seeing nature as a place to disconnect and relax. Gardening helps improve physical and mental health, and also provides stress relief. With a few simple gardening choices you can create a relaxing, renewing place to escape the pressures of everyday life. By using native and drought tolerant plants you can reap the rewards with less maintenance. And by adjusting plant selections or redesigning a part of your landscape you can provide habitat for butterflies, bees, birds and other wildlife.

At Gardening green Expo you can stroll through Greenhouse 4 and visit with vendors of products and services that will help you get the best out of your garden and lawn. There will also be talks by local experts and environmental organizations. The expo is Saturday, March 24 from 10:00am-4:00pm at Kennedy’s Country Gardens, 85 Chief Justice Cushing Hwy (Rt. 3A), Scituate. This is a FREE event and is family friendly, so plan to bring the kids!

There will also be talks by area experts and environmental organizations:

The Massachusetts Master Gardener Association will once again be doing soil testing from 10-2 and there will be information on how you can help the Monarch butterfly population. PLUS there will be “Mud Play” activity for kids and live goats from the The Goatscaping Co.

In conjunction with the expo, NSRWA will be taking orders for rain barrels and composters. “We moved our sale up this year so that people could get their rain barrels in time to capture the spring rains”, said Lori Wolfe, NSRWA Director of Marketing and WaterSmart Program Manager. “Lawn and garden watering take more water than people realize. When we have drought conditions and the streams are drying up, limiting outdoor watering and using water from a rain barrel can help conserve large amounts of water. To water a one acre lawn with just 1” of water consumes 26,000 gallons of water – or more than a standard 16’x32’ swimming pool! We want people to realize they can have beautiful, healthy yards using techniques that can actually save them time and money, and also save our precious water resources.”

This FREE expo is sponsored by the WaterSmart program, North and South Rivers Watershed Association and Kennedy’s Country Gardens. The WaterSmart program is a partnership with 10 towns on the South Shore; Aquarion (Hingham and Hull), Duxbury, Hanover, Kingston, Marshfield, Norwell, Pembroke, Scituate, Weymouth which provides education to school children and adults on water conservation in your home, business and town.
