Join us for the 2026 Fred’s Nature Walk and Score a Limited Edition T-Shirt!
Last year, NSRWA was honored to partner with the St. Ours family for a wonderful, well attended event inspired by the life and passions of Fred St. Ours, Jr. We invite you to join us again this year, as we continue to explore the fascinating world living in our own backyard.

About the Walk
In the forested land and waters near his home, Fred St. Ours, Jr. found a “playground” that suited his boundless curiosity. Exploring by foot, bike and canoe, Fred found joy in studying and photographing nature, especially his favored dragonflies. He became a local expert on wild mushrooms, leading foraging walks and lectures on the subject. He earned a B.S. in biology, with studies in Marine Science, and an M.S. with a concentration in entomology. His research took him from Costa Rica to Jamaica and beyond, but his local playground was a lasting fascination, and his passion to protect it spurred his membership on the NSRWA board.
Fred loved to invite others to his playground, and it is in this spirit that the St. Ours family and NSRWA invite you to join us in a walk in Fred’s honor, and to support the watershed that he loved to play in and share with others.
On October 17th, we’ll walk trails within Jacobs Pond Conservation Area as we contemplate the history and nature of a place of special significance to the St. Ours family. Led by NSRWA staff, the walk will follow a loop of about 2 miles, over varying and sometimes uneven terrain. Esteemed entomologist Blake Dinius and other local experts will provide interesting and fun facts along the way.
The walk is open to all without a fee. However, donations to NSRWA are welcome. Through the generosity of the St. Ours family, donors who give $50.00 or more in support of this event will receive a specially designed Fred’s Nature Walk t-shirt while supplies last.
To register for the walk, please complete this form To donate in support of this event, please use the Donate button on this page. 100% of donations will go directly to NSRWA.
Can’t make it to the walk? Donations of $50 or more to support this event will qualify for the t-shirt. While supplies last! Just use the same Donate button described above.
We hope Fred’s spirit of curiosity and appreciation of nature will inspire you to join us in this beautiful playground and to spread his passion and support for conserving our natural treasures.
Please note, this will be a pet-free event.
