NSRWA Walking Club – Higgins-MacAllister Preserve in Scituate
Saturday, September 12
10:00-11:30 am
Join Walking Club Coordinator Steve French and Guest Hosts Deb Lenahan and Marla Minier as we explore the Higgins-MacAllister and Bates Lane Preserves in Scituate on Saturday, September 12 from 10:00-11:30. Deb Lenahan is a longtime volunteer, former Executive Director and Advisory Council member of the NSRWA. Marla Miner has served in multiple public capacities for the town of Scituate including the Community Preservation Committee and the Scituate Harbor Advisory Redevelopment Commission. Both Deb and Marla are intimately familiar with the trail systems in the town of Scituate.
The Higgins-MacAllister Preserve has a 1.2-mile trail that passes through woodlands and wetlands with views of Merritt Brook. This trail system connects to the much larger adjoining Bates Lane Conservation Area which includes several miles of trails through 355 woodland acres. Some of the interesting features include old stone walls and glacial erratic boulders. The walk is primarily on woodland paths with varying elevation changes.
