Join us on a relaxing autumn paddle around the Upper Reaches of the North River. The confluence of the Indian Head River and Herring Brook forms the upper reaches of the North River. This creates a lovely freshwater tidal marsh, one of only a handful in the state. Early fall colors and cooler weather make for a great time to enjoy the beauty that this section of river has to offer.

Wild rice (Zizana sp.), also known as Indian Rice is found on the slower flowing portions of the North River, Indian Head, and Herring Brook. It is a favorite food for many of the wildfowl that frequent the waterway. Our NSRWA guide will share historical wild rice harvesting practices, and participants might even be able to harvest a small amount of their own.

We will meet at 10:00am at the Hanover Canoe Launch on Sunday, September 20. If you are bringing your own vessel, please try to arrive early so you have time to unload and be on the water by 10:00am.
