Faxon Park

1 Faxon Park Road, Quincy, MA

Quincy Parks: 617-376-1253

Owned By: City of Quincy

Quincy’s Faxon Park features walking paths, 2 little league fields, a softball field with lights, a basketball court, a soccer field, a disc golf course, a playground, ping pong tables, and picnic pavilion.

Features

Originally the Town’s South Commons, this land was sold to private owners in 1818. A large portion of it was purchased by Job Faxon, who passed it on to his son Henry H. Faxon. In 1885, Henry Faxon bequeathed 37 acres of land to the City. In 1935, his son Henry M. Faxon added to his father’s gift and donated 20 acres to the park, bringing it to its current size.

The playground features areas for younger and older children, and includes a climbing rock, swings, climbing structures, benches, and picnic tables. The surface is composed of wood chips and rubber. It has a fence and a gate, but it is not entirely fenced-in.

This land is within the region of the Neponset band of the Massachusett (or Massachuseuk). To learn more about local Native American tribes, we encourage you to interact with their members. The Massachusett tribe at Ponkapoag shares information on its website.

Trail Description

The park’s paved roadway extends up and down a hill. There is a rotary at the top with a nice view. There are also several unpaved trails.

Habitats and Wildlife

Set on a hillside, this grassy property features, oak, pine and maples trees. It is situated in the Fore River watershed.

The Fore River serves as the boundary line between the towns of Weymouth and Braintree. It flows for about 3 miles, into Quincy, where it meets the Town River, and then flows for another 2 miles into Hingham Bay. In its final few miles, the Fore River is nearly a mile wide in some places. We encourage you to follow and support the Fore River Watershed Association.
