River Adventures Camp
River Adventures Camp is just that – a series of great adventures on the North and South Rivers. The NSRWA has partnered with South Shore YMCA to offer week-long sessions of summer fun and adventure on the rivers for middle-schoolers. Activities include kayaking, safety skills, tidepool exploration, plant and critter identification, and leadership development. Kids may swim at the Spit, explore the upper reaches of the North River, or paddle and picnic at Couch’s Beach. Every day is a new location and a new experience. That is why campers come back year after year!
For boys and girls in Grades 6–9. Six one week sessions – $375 per week for NSRWA or SSYMCA members – $390 for non-members
Please fill out the registration form in the YMCA brochure.
Camp day begins at 9 am and ends at 3:30 pm at the South Shore YMCA Camp Gordon Clark located in Hanover. Groups consist of up to 12 students, one camp counselor and two instructors. The participants begin by learning kayaking basics and safety procedures. Trips on the rivers include: a launch at the Union Street Bridge, paddling with the tide to Couch’s Beach and back; and kayaking the upper reaches of the North River from Luddam’s Ford in Hanover to the Crotch. When the tides are right, campers also visit the South River. River Adventures campers learn essential paddling skills and gain a better understanding of the natural environment of our rivers and watershed.
We would like to thank Billington Sea Kayak in Plymouth for their support of the River Adventures program. All kayaking equipment for campers has been supplied at cost from Billington Sea kayak. Thank you Doug Gray!
