24th Annual NSRWA New Year’s Day Walk
Driftway Conservation Park, Scituate
January 1, 2020
1:00-3:00pm

Celebrate the kick-off of NSRWA’s 50th Anniversary at our Annual New Year’s Day Walk! Discover the history of the NSRWA through a fun and interactive walk at Scituate’s Driftway Conservation Park. This event will be unlike ones in the past because it will be “choose your own adventure”. The NSRWA will have informative and interactive stations set-up throughout the park. Participants can go to which ever stations they choose and in whatever order they’d like.

Stations will highlight NSRWA’s 50 years of hard work and success. For example: To protect the water quality of the North River, the young NSRWA filed a lawsuit to enforce compliance with the Clean Water Act. An illegal outflow pipe bringing untreated sewage from the wastewater treatment plant to the edge of the river was found in this park. Thanks to the efforts of the NSRWA, the town of Scituate has upgraded its treatment facilities and no longer discharges raw sewage into the river. As a result, previously polluted shellfish beds are now thriving and open seasonally for harvesting! This success story is just one of many that will be discussed at the walk on New Year’s Day. Join the NSRWA as we look back at 50 years of hard work to protect our waters!

Park and meet at Widow’s Walk Golf Course 250 Driftway, Scituate, MA 02066. This walk is free and open to the public, families welcome. Dogs are welcome at this event. They must be kept on leash, under control, well behaved, and picked up after at all times (disposable bags are available onsite).
