The summer of 2025 is off to a great start! Our four college interns have been working on a bunch of projects these past few weeks, including invasive species monitoring, salt marsh elevation surveys, and RiverWatch water quality sampling with citizen science volunteers. They look forward to starting blue mussel surveys at 4th Cliff, assisting with the Stream Stewards program, and helping out with the Great River Race on July 6th. Susanne Moore:
Hello! My name is Susanne Moore, and I am from Duxbury, Massachusetts! I am a rising senior at Connecticut College, majoring in Environmental Studies and minoring in Geoscience and Studio Art. While at college, I work as a horticultural assistant in our campus arboretum and serve as a Student Sustainability Fellow for lab sustainability and energy conservation. I attribute most of my passion for environmental conservation to growing up on the South Shore, so I am thrilled to be a part of such meaningful work in my community. This Summer, I am very excited to get more involved in local and ongoing projects and learn from such a knowledgeable and inspiring team.

Sam Taylor:
My name is Sam Taylor and I am from Hingham, MA. I am majoring in marine science and pursuing a minor in coastal management at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. At school, I am involved in the Wetland Restoration Laboratory, a lab that studies restored mangrove forests and the ways in which they develop over time. As a big fisherman, I have always had a passion for anything involving the ocean and I especially found an interest in wetlands. I am so excited to learn more about my local watershed from the amazing team here at NSRWA, as well as the work it takes to protect it. I can’t wait to get into the field and explore!

Libby Cutler:
Hello! My name is Libby Cutler and I am from Scituate, Massachusetts. I am a rising senior at Colorado College, where I am majoring in Environmental Studies. I have grown up on the Gulf River my whole life, and have spent a lot of time paddle boarding, swimming, and exploring the marsh. My interest in marine ecosystems led me to the Cohasset Center for Student Coastal Research, where I spent multiple summers working on research projects focused on water quality and salt marsh biodiversity. I am very excited to intern with NSRWA, where I will assist in projects working on marine conservation, restoration efforts, and overall protecting our local watersheds. I am excited to work alongside such a knowledgeable team and get out into the field!

Avery Sands:
Hi everyone! My name is Avery Sands and I’m from Marshfield, Massachusetts. I’m thrilled to be back for my second summer with the NSRWA as a Senior Intern. I’m a rising senior at Trinity College in Connecticut, majoring in Environmental Science with a minor in Legal Studies. On campus, I’ll be pursuing a self-designed honors thesis to understand if a waste incinerator contributed to mercury concentrations in urban ponds around Hartford. This summer, I look forward to working with Alex and leading our intern team, collaborating with volunteers on citizen science projects, and helping out at events like the Great River Race. As conservation efforts are becoming increasingly more important, I’m so grateful to work with an organization that continues to promote the value of our watershed at a time when it is needed more than ever.
