The Gall of the Wild

Join us for a brief nature lesson discovering the commonly seen, but often overlooked Oak Apple Galls. These fascinating galls provide a safe place for a small larva of the Oak Apple Gall Wasp to develop. Later emerging from its capsule to begin its own adult life. These galls are meant to camouflage and protect the larva. Resembling an apple or a seed, these young insects are able to develop without too much threat of predators. Just another amazing piece of our ecosystem, another reminder that our world is full of surprises.
