Explore South Shore offers daily recommendations of places to enjoy the outdoors. Established in 2020, this program connects you with fun and beautiful public properties from Quincy to Plymouth. Each year we mix things up a little by changing the theme. This year, it’s “That’s My Watershed!”

We’re also hoping to increase your familiarity of our local waters. Not only where they are, but how they’re interconnected, ways to explore them, also the issues they face. Not just the North and South Rivers, but the Indian Head, the Drinkwater, and Herring River too. We’ll head north all the way to the Neponset, and south to the Cape Cod Canal. We’ll visit Plymouth’s Town Brook and Quincy’s Town River, plus the Gulf, the Weir, the Fore, and the Jones. And let’s not forget both of the Back Rivers – the one in Duxbury and the one in Weymouth!

Every day in 2026, Explore South Shore offers a daily suggestion for your next exploration — walking trails and boat launch ramps; fishing spots and playgrounds; beaches, parks and historic sites; and plenty more. We’ll show you where to find picnic tables, where to look for wildlife, where to bring the kids (and/or the dogs), and where to just sit and enjoy the view. In addition, we’ll have a monthly “That’s My Watershed!” contest. Click here for contest rules.
