On August 18th, the NSRWA held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Party at the home of Craig and Danny Hannafin in Marshfield. Seventy-three active volunteers, along with board, staff and advisory council members, gathered for a sunset picnic that featured pontoon boat tours on the North River, a casual meal catered by the South Shore Taco Guy, and refreshments provided by our generous hosts.
In addition, Executive Director Samantha Woods, Watershed Ecologist Alex Mansfield, and Community Engagement Manager Kezia Bacon offered remarks of appreciation for NSRWA’s volunteer team, which has grown to 750 participants!
Volunteers help spread NSRWA’s mission to places we ordinarily would not have the time, energy, manpower and/or funding to access. This year, volunteers conducted herring and horseshoe crab counts, site visits, and pet waste surveys. They gave presentations, cleared culverts, took photographs, and collected water quality samples. They assisted (and sometimes led) fundraising, marketing and social media campaigns. And they provided essential support for our annual events.
