While all of the herring runs are greatly diminished from what they were years ago, the data for the runs we monitor showed varying success for fish navigating dams through fish ladders:
All skill levels are invited to participate in the NSRWA’s 25th Great River Race! From novice to racer, everyone is invited to participate on a non-motorized vessel including canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and rowboats. We even have a prize for the “Best Decorated Boat or Boater” for the less serious paddler.
Now is the time to plan a clambake as there aren’t too many days left to go clam digging on the North and South River flats this season. We have a few trips planned to the clam flats, so sign up today. The shellfish beds will reopen again November 1st.
Can you give just ten minutes a week to help count herring? This work is important so we can gauge the health of our herring population. We have several dates for a short training for first-timers, and we have many herring counting time slots to fill so please sign up!
After ten years of planning, obtaining permits and finding funding, the Mill Pond Dam on Third Herring Brook came down. Watch a time lapse video of its removal, as water moves into its new channel!
